Maui

On October 23rd Ben and I set off for our second journey to Hawaii! First, we started in Maui where we spent 4 days staying in Kihei. Now get ready for the picture overload. Our first full day there we checked out Kihei Beach. It was beautiful and quickly became my favorite beach ever! That night we went to Lahaina and ate some real Hawaiian food. We stoped and asked a local for some good food and she pointed down the street and said, "Da Kitchen". We thought she meant "The Kitchen", but she definately didn't. Check it out...and here is the food we ate Next, we headed to a show called Ulalena which is about the history of Maui. It was pretty neat, but all of the singing was in Hawaiian (obviously) so it was more entertaining than informative for us. The next morning was an early one. We got up at 3:30 am to drive to the highest point in Maui, Haleakala National Park, to watch the sunrise. It didn't take us as long as we thought to get there so we took a little nap after we reached the top. The sight was amazing! However, at 10,023 feet with no sun, it tends to be a bit chilly...or freezing! Luckily, we were warned by some locals so we went prepared with a blanket. After the journey home and a nap, we got ready for a luau! It was at an amazing hotel called the Grand Wailea and yes it was Grand! We watched the sunset and then had some yummy food, including pork from this pig. The next day we went snorkeling. First stop was Molikini CraterIt was the best experience I've ever had snorkeling. We saw so many colorful fish and the water was so clear! Oh, and another thing that made it great was a little thing called a 'life belt'. For those of us who don't swim well (me) it really helps with any floatation issues. Ben was a sweetie and stayed by me until I was done. Then, he had a little time to do some real exploring. Our last day on Maui was Tuesday. We went to Makena Beach which was also very beautiful. Enjoyed the amazing Maui scenery one last timeAnd then headed to Iao Valley for a picnic. Finally, we hopped on a plane and flew to Oahu to meet up with our friends Dave, Jenny, Zach, and Amber. However, that island is for the next post:)

The fog on the mountain reminds me of sunrise on Wheeler Peak. "It's so beautiful up here! It kind of makes me think of the beauty of marriage." :) Looks like a great trip!

Sounds like you guys had an awesome time! That hike sounded amazing. You have some great pictures! I have a question for you.... how do you cut a little kid's hair? I know how to trim the top...thats pretty self explanatory, but the sides get me worried. Any hints???? Hunter is bordering on longer-hair-on-the-sides-than-the-top syndrome.
