Elk Hunt

This year Ben got a spike tag for the Elk hunt. We went up by Strawberry Reservoir so the boys could get their hunt on! Ben's friends, Dave and Lance, were able to come up as well and Ben was very grateful they were there. On the opening day of the hunt the boys got up at 4:30am, left at 5:00am and headed up into the mountains. They hiked in to the area and waited for the sun to come up. Within the first hour of daylight, at about 7:30am, Ben got one! His first elk!Thank goodness Ben had two strapping young men there to help him clean it and drag it back to Lance's truck. It weighed over 300 pounds and they hauled it between 3 and 4 miles. They didn't get back to camp until around 1:00pm and they were TIRED! Here are the mighty hunters. After they returned, they ate some lunch, Lance left to get home to his wife, and Dave and Ben took a much needed nap. Both my sisters and their families were up there as well so I got to hang out with the girls all day. It was a little cold on Friday and Saturday, but Sunday, the day we left, it started to warm up. Here are the girls Paizlee, Amy, Cindi, Jen, and BritleeAnd the boys Zen, Dave, and Ben We had such a great time and hope to go up next weekend too!
