We decided that since we're out here for the summer we should take advantage of the things the east coast has to offer and in this case we were not disappointed. Washington D.C. on Independence Day is AMAZING!!! It's definitely not for everyone, but we loved it! The weather was perfect, the food was yummy, and the fireworks were AWESOME! However, there were SO MANY PEOPLE there! I left early with Matt, Kiera, and Jenny to go save a good spot to watch the fireworks while Ben stayed back in Baltimore to work a little bit. We arrived there at about 2 o'clock and after laying our blanket out to claim our territory, we walked around to some museums and kept saying, "wow, there's not as many people here as we thought there would be." Then, Ben and some other boys arrived around 7 o'clock and when we went back to our blanket for fireworks our thoughts changed. There were people everywhere!
We just relaxed and played a few games with some live music playing in the background.
The Washington Memorial at dusk
(look at all the people!)
Then, onto the main event...the best firework show in the nation! And it was. The fireworks were shot from the Lincoln Memorial and we were sitting between the Washington and the Lincoln, so we could see everything perfectly!
We were told that we should just plan on camping there that night because of how long it would take us to get out of there, but we walked back 2 metro stations and just walked on. No lines and no standing on the train...perfect!
Happy 4th of July!

The fireworks were awesome! Now I'll be disappointed every fourth of July...none could compare!
Fireworks in D.C. are the best!!! We miss you guys. When are you coming back to the west? we shot off a couple of fireworks where little army men with parachutes are blasted into the air...they reminded me of ben.
WOW Jen!! That would be some experience there! I'm sure it was the most amazing thing! I've always wanted to do that! I hope all is going well for you guys! Call me sometime to chat! LOVE YOU!
That looks amazing! We did the same here in Philly. It was crazy busy but I figured we might as well brave it because this may be our only opportunity! And we even took our kids, but it was well worth it!!
